Gasoline
03:11
|
|

When asked what I would do with my very last pound,
The gambler within me awoke with a start,
I thought for a moment, but I knew deep within my heart,
It was a scratch card I would buy, just to see where my fortunes lie,
For I'd already have lost and be scrambling on the ground
Douse my heart, in gasoline,
I want to feel everything,
Let me choke on the smoke and flames,
I want the chance to feel again
When asked between a coward, or some hero,
I distinctly chose, between honour and life,
What's morality to a burnt, blackened soul,
That already cannot sleep through the night
Douse my heart in gasoline,
I want to feel everything,
Let me choke on the smoke and flames,
I want the chance to feel again
From Vegas to Reno, the shores of Monte Carlo (X3)
Douse my heart in gasoline,
I want to feel everything,
let me choke on the smoke and flames,
I want the chance to feel again (X2)

New Jersey
04:03

Someday I'll buy you that house in New Jersey,
And we'll head out to shows down at the Stone Pony,
We'll find drinking buddies down at the Asbury Lanes,
And it won't matter if this American Dream,
Goes up in flames.
There'll be burnt out Cadillacs along the highway,
We'll drive all hours of the night and throughout the days,
We could take a trip into New York City,
To remind us of London Town,
If we should ever start to miss it
The tires will meet the road on Route 66
We'll take a tent and build a campfire
Out in the wilderness
The city air has been known to clog my airways,
These rolling fields make me feel
Like I'm home again.
Someday I'll buy you that house in New Jersey,
with the shutters by the sea
And we'll head out to shows down at the Stone Pony,
if they'll let us in
We'll find drinking buddies down at the Asbury Lanes,
and drown our sorrows
And it won't matter if this American Dream,
Goes up in flames,
I can still dream tomorrow
The tires will meet the road on Route 66
We'll take a tent and build a campfire
Out in the wilderness
The city air has been known to clog my airways,
These rolling fields make me feel
Like I'm home again.
In my foolish ignorance, this is what I believe
Heartbreaks a second, and big Hollywood endings
But I don't want this to be another empty promise
The likes of which are made,
On an all too regular basis.

Familiar Fears
02:24
|
|
||
We saw our bedrooms as our prison cells,
Though most were bigger than 4 by 10,
We saw our hometowns as our sentences,
18 years before we could escape them
In teenage heartache and misery,
We gained bloodstained hands through our self surgery
Spending hours wishing away our years,
In doing so forgetting to live,
By the time we reached our familiar fears,
We didn't know how to solve the problems,
Or how to forgive
We watched satellites grace summer skies,
As we sat and laughed and made plans to watch the sun rise,
Forgetting that despite the season nights still grow cold,
As we huddled for warmth our plans could not hold
Spending hours wishing away our years,
In doing so forgetting to live,
By the time we reached our familiar fears,
We knew not how to solve the problems,
Or how to forgive.

John Wayne
04:37

John Wayne would be turning in his grave,
Seeing all the girls who don't want to be saved,
The boys they got tired of playing the hero,
They risked their lives and in turn received nothing to show
Even tumbleweed don't roll through this town,
Boards go up as the shops close down,
Zombies walk the high street, of a Friday night,
No club or pub or bar is open in sight
It's been dead here for decades, let alone years,
The source of peoples comfort, pain, love and fears,
Each time you try to leave you get pulled back in,
Lassoed by the few remaining factories, our losses, and our wins
We've this enormous world to explore,
Yet we have all we need here and more,
No need to ride into the sunset, atop a great horse,
Eventually we'll get out,
Once time has run its course
We either leave now, or this is where we die,
We run to the cities, but we're blinded by London's lights
Some day we'll pass back through again,
Coz we take these towns with us from start to end,
Some attachment that runs far deeper than blood,
Despite the inevitable sinking into the sand, the mire, the mud
You know maybe John Wayne won't be turning in his grave,
Not all the girls round here needed to be saved,
The boys in time, well, they'll learn,
That love is measured by trust and faith and not,
By how much you gain in return.

Early June
03:50
|
|
||
Johnny is sitting next to me,
With his head firmly placed in-between his knees,
The contents of his stomach is lying at his feet,
He claims it's due to the rough nature of this sea,
And I forgot to reply, to my mother's letter last night,
Perhaps she'll finally receive, the first I had to write,
And in the peace of this moment, the calm before the storm,
I heard her voice inside of my head, left my cold heart feeling warm
And the sleepless nights, that might deliver my fate,
Have been taking their toll on my of late,
I can't seem to find an energy fuelled by passionate hate,
And in the panic of this morning, I forgot to check the date,
I think it's early June
And I forgot to reply, to my mother's letter last night,
Perhaps she'll finally receive the first I had to write,
And in the peace of this moment, the calm before the storm,
It suddenly struck me, I know to what I'm fighting for,
Well I'm well aware of the cause,
It's just I'm sick and tired of this bloody war,
It may well be for my children in years to come,
But right now all I want to do is lay down my gun,
And swap my khaki greens,
For a fresh shirt and a pair of those new American jeans
Johnny is sitting next to me, I point his gaze, toward that infamous beach,
For a minute it's like summertime, at home, before I'd seen,
The seething mass of bodies, the ghosts of men already haunting,
High above the sea.
